Sea Base High Adventure Trip
(Info as of January 5, 2010)
Here are the options we talked about at the meeting last
night. Please look this over and let me
know if you and/or your Scout is interested, and your first and second most
preferred trip options.
Once we zero in on which trip option we can decide the
actual dates. Because Summer Camp is in
June, I’m suggesting August for this trip.
I think we’d like to be home at least a week before school starts.
Mr. Harris has volunteered to provide a motor home to
transport our group to and from the event.
We’re figuring two or three days travel time each way, staying at Boy
Scout Camps along the way.
The requested reservation and $100 per person deposit
deadline is February 15,
2010. Shortly after that a
lottery is held and the Sea Base notifies the accepted crews. After that any vacancies are available via
open registration.
To have the best chance of getting the dates we want we’ll
need commitments by our February
8, 2010 Troop Meeting, which is our last meeting before the
deadline.
We have time and are considering fund raising activity
options to reduce costs. The prices
below are without any fund raising.
Option 1: Scuba Certification
This is an eight day event that consists of scuba training,
open water dives, and the option to become a certified diver. Accommodations are in air conditioned
dormitories. Participants must be 14
years of age by the start of the event.
$850 per person includes meals, instruction and housing. We’ve got about 15 months between when the
deposit is due and when the fees are due (90 days before the event). Bottom line is $100 by February 8, 2010, then if you can set
aside $50 a month for the 15 months that would take care of the remaining $750.
Option 2: Florida Keys
Adventure
This is a seven day event, that consists of snorkeling,
fishing, sailing, boating, ocean kayaking, the option to camp one night on a
primitive island (Big Munson), and a visit to Key West. Accommodations are in air conditioned
dormitories. Participants must be 14
years of age by September 1,
2011.
$725 per person includes meals, instruction and
housing. Bottom line is $100 by February 8, 2010, then if
you can set aside $42 a month for the 15 months that would take care of the
remaining $625.
Option 3: Out
Island Adventure
This is a seven day event, that consists of camping on Big
Munson Island,
a 100 acre island that is much like it was when pirates arrived in the
1800s. Activities include fishing,
snorkeling, kayaking, and exploring. You
travel to the island by polynesian war canoes, and wade all your food, water,
and gear to shore. Food is delivered by
powerboat. Participants must be 14 years
of age by September 1, 2011.
$725 per person includes meals and instruction. Bottom line is $100 by February 8, 2010, then if you can set
aside $42 a month for the 15 months that would take care of the remaining $625.
Option 4: Florida
Fishing Adventure
This is an eight day event, that consists of fishing for
many varieties of fish and sharks, and a visit to Key West. Accommodations are in air conditioned
dormitories. Participants must be 14
years of age by September 1,
2011.
$850 per person includes meals, instruction and
housing. Bottom line is $100 by February 8, 2010, then if
you can set aside $50 a month for the 15 months that would take care of the
remaining $750.
